MY SHAPE BUDDY - Shapes Around Us

My Shape Buddy – Shapes Around Us ( Maths Activity )

To make learning more engaging, students participated in a fun-filled activity titled “My Shape Buddy.” The activity aimed to help children recognize, identify, and use basic geometric shapes in a creative and meaningful way.

Class - 2

Objective:

• To help students identify and differentiate basic 2D shapes.

• To enable students to apply geometric knowledge in a creative context.

• To encourage observation and imagination by connecting maths with art.

• To develop an understanding that shapes exist all around us and can combine to form meaningful figures.

Activity Description:

In this activity, students used various geometric shapes — circles, rectangles, squares, and triangles — to create a human figure or “buddy.”

Using coloured paper cut-outs, crayons, and glue, they arranged and pasted different shapes to form heads, bodies, arms, and legs. Each student proudly named their creation as “My Shape Buddy.”

After completing the artwork, children also identified and counted the number of each shape used in their buddy.

Skills Developed:

• Observation skills – recognizing and naming shapes.

• Fine motor skills – cutting, pasting, and arranging shapes neatly.

• Creativity and imagination – designing a unique “shape buddy.”

• Spatial understanding – visualizing how shapes fit together.

• Analytical thinking – identifying parts of a whole figure.

Reflection:

Students thoroughly enjoyed this activity and were thrilled to see how simple shapes could come together to form a person. It sparked curiosity and excitement, making mathematics more relatable and enjoyable.
